Aloha!

Aloha and welcome to Luau!

For Mavity's birthday party we did a luau theme. I asked everyone to dress up in their best hawaiian outfit. To my surprise pretty much everyone came decked out in hawaiian garb! I was impressed! The decorations were hibiscus flower table clothes, hibiscus flowers hanging from the ceiling, palm trees everywhere and pineapples for center pieces. There were a few center pieces that said Happy 1st Birthday! I had to have something that said Happy 1st Birthday on them! The house and backyard were decorated and looked very festive. The cake was a white cake with white frosting and pink and yellow fondant flowers all over it. I worked really hard on the cake and I think it turned out quite good. The menu consisted of (everything homemade) bbq pork sandwiches, coconut shrimp, bacon wrapped chicken bites, pasta salad, fruit salad, and pineapple salad (which I want to marry it's so good). To drink we had homemade lemonade and capri suns! There was a ton of food but also a ton (23) of people so there was hardly anything left over.

After lunch we gave Mavity her birthday present from Momma and Dadda. We got her a swing for her swingset. She LOVES it! She laughed and squeeled the entire time she was in the swing. We then had a request to open presens so we went in and started on the pile of presents. She got a bunch of really cute clothes and a bunch of neat toys. She loves every single one of them. We tried to get Mavity to open her presents but she would just hand them to me to do it. I opened all of her presents and every thing that I opened she wanted to play with immediatly. It was so much fun watching her eyes light up when she saw what she got. For only being 1 and not knowing what appreciation is, she sure seemed appreciative of everything that she got.

After we opened all the presents it was time for cake. We all sang her happy birthday (which did not scare her) and then I gave her her own miniature cake I made her. She again daintily touched the cake. She really didn't want much to do with it at first so I gave her a little taste. She then started to touch it a little bit more but still not going crazy. Then all of a sudden she reached with both hands and grabbed two giant handfuls of cake. She took a bite and then started squishing it in her hands. It was fun to watch her. Then she started offering people bites of cake off of her hands. It was so cute and hilarious!

After she seemed disinterested by the cake I took her straight to the tub. I showered her off and then put her in her pj's. She was exhausted! We went around the room and gave everyone kisses and then it was off to bed.

I think that Mavity really enjoyed her first birthday party. I know I enjoyed it. It was more perfect than I could have ever imagined! I look so forward to all the birthdays that my daughter and I get to spend together! She is so amazing!

She's 1!

I have a one year old! I really can't believe it. She is growing up so fast. I'll tell you about her big day (well it was actually two days).

On the morning of her birthday I went into her room and sang her happy birthday. She looked at me like I had lost my mind and then started laughing. We got up for the day and did our usual routine excet every 5 minutes I would bust out in song singing happy birthday. The daddy man got up and kissed his girl and wished her a happy birthday. My friend Monkey's Momma called and they sang happy birthday to Mavity over the phone. She enjoyed hearing the song coming from the phone, or she just really wanted to have the phone. Then the Grandpa man called her and sang her happy birthday. Then the Grammy called but Mav was asleep so I had to relay the message.

Grandma came down and we all went out to lunch. We went to My Big Fat Greek Restuarant. For her big birthday lunch I ordered Mavity a pizza, which she proceeded to throw on the floor. She didn't want to have any part of her birthday pizza. So I ate for dinner, it was quite good!

That night after dinner the daddy man and I sang Happy Birthday to Mavity and gave her her first piece of cake. It was homemade carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, very tasty! Mavity looked at the weird thing in front of her and daintily touched it with one finger. The one time I don't tell her to be gentle she is. =) The daddy man breaks off a piece and puts it in her mouth. She spits it out. But then she digs her finger into the frosting and licks her finger, she likes the frosting! Finally she takes a big handful of cake, smooshes it in her hand and then throws it! What a silly kid. She ate a few bites but she mostly just threw it in the floor.

After bath time I put her pj's on and put her to bed. As I layed her down in her bed I felt sad that the day was over. It was the last little moment of her first birthday. It was official she was a year old.

Alvin and the Chipmunks

Mavity is ADDICTED to the latest Alvin and the Chipmunks movie with Jason Lee. She could seriously watch that movie all day long if I let her, which I don't! With most kids they pick a movie that they enjoy watching but they usually only enjoy watching the first 20 minutes or so. Mavity however will sit and watch the entire movie happily. She loves the music that is in it. When the songs come on she starts dancing away. She even laughs at certain parts of the movie. Mavity loves watching the movie and I love watching her watch the movie.

I'm so glad that she picked a good movie to be addicted to. My little sister picked Dumbo as her favorite movie and to be honest that movie kind of scares me. Now that she is 16 she wonders why she ever liked that movie because it now scares her too.

On Valentines weekend the daddy man wanted to take me out on a date. We took the Mavster over to my dad's house for the evening. On our way to my dad's house we had to stop at the video store and buy Alvin and the Chipmunks. I figured this would keep her happy and entertained while we were gone and she wouldn't cry the whole time like she did the last time we tried to go out. I put the movie on as soon as we got there and sure enough Mavity didn't even notice or care that we were leaving. She watched it twice while we were gone. She now LOVES going over to my dad's house. I think it's because she knows that Alvin is there if she needs him, or the fact that my dad gives her crackers and cookies.

I love that she has a movie that keeps her happy and entertained, it helps out so much when we need a break.

A few weeks ago Mavity was getting her 9th and 10th teeth, which happened to be molars. She had a fever and was in so much pain. She was crying so hard and we couldn't get her to calm down. Finally we turned on Alvin and sure enough she totally relaxed and was fine. Alvin is our miracle worker in this house.

Thanks Alvin, Simon and Theodore!

The babbles of a baby...

Mavity speaks several different languages I'm pretty sure. I know for sure that she speaks baby. I'm pretty sure she speaks Vietnamese (sp?). The reason I think this is because the other day Mavity, my friend and I went to get pedicures (Mav didn't get a pedicure as much as she broke the chair we were sitting in). While I was getting my pedicure the Vietnamese ladies started talking to each other and Mavity just joined right in like she knew exactly what they were saying. It sounded just like what they were saying too. It was pretty hilarious!

But most importantly Mavity speaks English!!! She loves to tell her kitties to "GET DOWN!" with a tiny little finger pointed at them. She also enjoyes telling pretty much anyone to "GET DOWN!" while pointing a cute little finger at them. The other day at my brother's house, Mavity was yelling at their dog to "GET DOWN!" off the couch. I apologized that my daughter was yelling at their dog but they didn't mind.

Another word that Mavity loves to use is no, but it's not just no when she says it. It is "noooooo" or "noooooo noooooo". It is pretty darn hilarious! I think my favorite is, "nooooooo mama!" It's so hard not to crack up when she talks back at the tender age of 11 months.

"Uh oh!" Mavity has been saying uh oh for quite sometime but it's only just lately that she has mastered the technique of this word. Since she is now feeding herself she also has the ability to drop food on the floor. I will tell her, "Mavity don't throw your food on the floor!" So she holds it over the edge of the high chair, slowly drops it and then says, "Uh oh!" Like oops sorry mom but that was just an accident so you can't get mad at me. I usually can't get mad at her because she is so darn cute!

I apparently talk on my phone way too much because not only does she want a phone at all times but she also mocks me while I'm on the phone. She will put her hand, comb, toy, play phone, pretty much anything, up to her ear and say "lo (hello), ya, ya, ya". I find this quite hilarious!
The other day Mavity was playing on the couch and was all of a sudden really quiet. I looked to see what she was doing and she had my cell phone. She had opened it up and was text messaging someone. Oh, what have I done to my poor child, she is already addicted to the phone. =)

One of my favorites things that she says lately is, "yes." But not only does she say yes but she also nods her head. I am in love with the head nod. I'll ask her, "did you poopy" and she will nod her head yes. And usually she is telling the truth. So she started the yes head nod a couple weeks ago, she has now added saying yes when she nods. Well now she has started shaking her head no. When I ask her, "do you have something in your mouth" she shakes her head no but it is very obvious that she does. So I ask her again and again she shakes her head no. I start walking over to her to check to see what is in her mouth and she will start running (crawl run) away from me. She is too smart and she already knows how to lie to me.

Since her birthday is coming up soon I started teaching her how old she is. I'll ask her, "Mav how old are you going to be on your birthday?" and she will hold up one finger. The other day I asked her how old she was going to be and she said, "4". First off , I don't know where she learned that word or how she knows that it works for an anwer to that question. I thought it was just a coincidence but I asked her again later how old she was going to be and again she said, "4". I had to correct her and tell her she was not in fact going to be 4 but will actually only be 1. Now she just holds up her finger.

I love the talking that she is already doing but I look really forward to all the funny things she is going to say when she gets a bit older. I look forward to the announcement of having to poop while we are in the middle of the store or the occasional cuss word that I will try so hard to not laugh at. Kids are so much fun!

11 months and counting...

Mavity is now 11 months and 14days old! I can't believe that almost an entire year has passed. It seems like just yesterday that I was sitting in this same chair, very uncomfortably, and wondering when the heck this kid was going to come out! This time last year I was hugely pregnant and trying everything I possibly could to put myself into labor. Mavity however had a completely different agenda than I. Which, now that I know her, is not surprising.

The past year has been by far the best of my life. She has brought me so much joy and love that I can't even rightly express. She is my life, my pride and joy, my little angel. I'm not sure what I ever did before I had her. She fills my days and my nights with so much. She is my little tag-along buddy. She goes with me every where pretty much. She is such a good kid. I don't know how I got so lucky to have such a wonderfully amazing child. I know everyone thinks that there is kid is wonderfully amazing but for some reason I just believe that mine is the most wonderfully amazing! =)

Life is so much sweeter with my little girl in it. She brings a smile to my face even when she is being a little booger. When she smiles at me, after I tell her "no", and then says "Noooo, ma ma" right back to me I just have to laugh. Discipline is going to be so hard for me because she is so darn cute!

I can't believe my daughter is going to be one year old in 2 weeks. It's amazing, wonderful and scary all at the same time. I am so blessed to have such a wonderful little family.

Urgent Care here we come.

Mavity has had a cold for a week now. On Sunday she seemed to be better but her voice was kind of raspy. On Sunday night the daddy man and I were in bed when we heard Mavity crying. She sounded really horse and I felt really bad for her because she couldn't even cry without sounding sick. On my way to her room I realized that something didn't sound right so I ran the rest of the way to her room. When I got there I noticed that she was crying a lot harder than what it sounded like. The poor girl couldn't catch her breath. She was drooling and having a hard time breathing. I yelled for the daddy man. I made her a bottle of juice thinking that maybe her throat was just really dry. She refused the bottle and kept crying and struggling for breath. I told the daddy man that we needed to take her to urgent care. I then handed her off so I could go get dressed.

We put her in her carseat and were headed out the door. I then realized that I didn't have any shoes on. I found the closest shoes I could and ran out the door. The daddy man drove so fast to the urgent care that it didn't take very long at all. When we got there, there were 4 people in front of us. Their kids seemed fine so I wanted to tell them to get the F out of the way because my daughter needed more attention than theirs. Of course I didn't say anything because I didn't really know what was wrong with their kids. I couldn't believe that they could call this place urgent care. It took, what seemed like, forever to get to the front of the line. Finally when I got to the desk the woman started asking me all these questions. I just wanted to tell her to shut up because my daughter needed help! Finally she asked me what was wrong and I told her that my daughter was having difficulty breathing. She said that a nurse would be out shortly and handed me some paperwork to fill out.

While we were sitting in the waiting room you were breathing fine and seemed ok. Then when the nurse came out to get us you started crying and having a hard time breathing again. The nurse looked at another nurse and said, "do you hear it?" HEAR WHAT??? WHAT IS WRONG WITH HER!?! We got back to the room and she told us that Mavity had croup. Croup is the inflammation of the vocal chords and it makes the baby feel like they can't breath. The doctor came in and listened to her lungs and said that she needed a breathing treatment and some steroids. After that we were free to go home.

That night she had no more episodes of difficult breathing and none since that first one. She went to the doctor yesterday and they said that she looked good but the cold would probably last another 7 days or so.

My poor baby. She can't drink her milk because she can't breath and drink at the same time. She can't sleep very well because she coughs. Her nose runs constantly and at night I can tell that she just feels yucky. I'm really hoping that she gets better soon.

Oh and now I'm sick.

Mavity poo pooed in the potty!

Last week Mavity was in the tub and she was grunting and tooting. I told her that toots were ok but if she needed to poop she needed to get out and poop on the potty. Since she is only 10 months old, she had no idea what I was saying. So she went ahead and pooped in the tub! It would have been really gross to most people but I just laughed. Part of it was sticking up and flowing back and forth like a sea plant of some sort. I was histerically laughing! I quickly took her out of the tub and handed her off to the daddy man. I took out all of her toys, drained the tub and took care of the dooty.

The next night there was no poopies in the tub! Not even a toot or a grunt. So I figured that the night before was just a rare occasion. I figured wrong. The next night she started grunting and tooting again and before I could get her out of the tub and onto the toilet she had already down her business in the tub again. This one was still funn but not quite as funny as the first. I snatched her up out of the water and of course she had poopies all over her. I set her little butt down on the side of the tub while I tried to grab her towel. Does anyone know what poo and water make? A very drippy mess when you set it on the side of the tub! There was poopy water dripping down the side of the tub. Eww, but still funny. I again handed her off to the daddy man and proceeded to clean the tub AGAIN!

Now, armed with my 2 experiences of tub pooping, I knew what to look for and I would get her out of the tub onto the pot before the poop happened. Well a week past and there was not even a grunt. I had decided that those 2 were just fluke episodes of tub pooping and that she learned her lesson. Again, I was wrong.

Last night she was in the tub playing when I noticed her face turn a bit red. She was trying to poo! I grabbed her out of the tub, set her on the toilet and out it came! She had pooped on the toilet for the first time in her life, and only at 10 months!!! I was a proud momma! I wiped her teeny tiny but and put her back in the tub. Then I proceeded to sing her a poopy song that went like this...
Mavity poo pooed in the potty
Mavity poo pooed in the potty
Mavity poo pooed in the potty
'cuz she's a really big girl!
I wanted to make it a big deal for her so that she would want to do it again. But what I'm realizing now is that I've made it a big deal to poo during bath time so now it's up to me to recognize the poopy signs and get her from the tub to the pot.

Oh well,
Mavity poo pooed in the potty
Mavity poo pooed in the potty
Mavity poo pooed in the potty
'Cuz she's a really big girl!
